Students who got into WM/CWM:

Tips mention: Interview (4), ACT/SAT (32), Grades (48), Sports/Extracurriculars (31), College Essay (32)
William and Mary is really not hard at allOct 12 2010Unknown
William and Mary is really not hard at all to get into. Really, they'll accept you with like a 3.2 if you just write about something quirky that makes you seem different and TWAMPish. And if you do get waitlisted, chances are you'll get in off the waitlist because they always have to dip into it because so many students have heard how much W&M sucks.
ACT: 33 SAT: 1480 Female
There's a rumor going around that the school doesn'tJul 12 2010Psychology
There's a rumor going around that the school doesn't accept anyone with an HS GPA of less than 3.5 unless they play sports or have done some significant research. It is virtually impossible to graduate in 4 years if you don't transfer AP credits in, also. At least 3 or 4 classes is recommended.
SAT: 2100 Female
Make yourself competitiveJun 28 2010Other
Make yourself competitive. Diversify your extra-curricular involvement and take the most challenging classes available to you. Make sure your application is flawless. If you can, participate in the on-campus interview process (if you can't, it doesn't count against you). VISIT and make sure you can see yourself here. If you get in, schedule an overnight visit as well!
ACT: 33 Male
Of course I had good grades and SAT scoresMar 17 2010Undecided
Of course I had good grades and SAT scores (everyone does), but the admissions staff really does read those essays and the optional extra "essay" (which can be anything). Just make yourself stand out. I was also close enough to do the optional interview over the summer. Be aware- these interviews are with rising seniors, so not only are they judging you, but it's a good way to judge the typical William and Mary person, or TWAMP.
SAT: 1470 Female
In my view SAT is about 45% grade isJan 31 2010Political Science
In my view SAT is about 45% grade is about 35% and 20% is ur essays, E.C.A., and ur application. Essay, I believe, counts almost 10% more on ur application. If u get an SAT grade above 600s scores and GPA above 3.7/4, which was my score by the way, I think u will have a good shot of getting into these schools. Instate is more competitive than out of state (especially in this dire economy), Woman might be slightly harder to getting in than man (W. 55/ M.45), and minority has slight advantage than whites or Asians (Wh. 65 % A. 25 % B. 10%). Transfer has acceptance rate of 50%, so it is much easier for transfer to get into this college than as a freshman, which is 30%. In my opinion this school is great place for anyone, but try to apply many other schools (At least 8 as I did) rather than applying 3 colleges in case of some misfortunes. If ur trying to apply into competitive schools like this college than i advice u should apply at least 4 or 5 of these and other 2 or 3 for safety schools just to be cautious. I knew couple kids who only applied to three, but barely got into one school, which I consider as a dangerous. Good luck!
